Bigred I actually was aware of that ?
But the question I was asking was about the AC adapter and was for a reason. I don't want it to auto off half way through a mix and I often have things that take me away from my mixing space like to answer the phone or I am carer for an elderly relitive plus I have two kids who often wake during the evening's while I'm mixing and I need to take off my gloves and go to see to them. Which is why I was asking about the mains lead.
That being said, I did get this delivered at last and it turns out it's a 6v adapter with a positive centre post. (no idea what the official size of the part that plugs into the scales is but I'd say medium. If you're getting one of those adapters with tips that you can swap in and out, you should be fine. So anyone looking for a useful answer, there you go.
Or as Bigred said, yes, you can use batteries in it (duh) but my understanding is that if you want to avoid the auto off feature, then mains is the way to go.
Hope someone finds that a more useful post than, "dude, you can use batteries in it" but thanks to bigred for reminding me to post my findings and help the community a little. ??
